Vecova Centre for Disability Services and Research

2019: $50,000

Washroom & Change Room Upgrades

The generous contribution Vecova received from the Allardyce Bower Foundation for our washroom accessibility project has had a tremendous impact on the people who use our facility each and every day. Our main facility provides direct services to over 400 children and adults with disabilities. In addition, over 200,000 people in the community also access our wellness and recreation programs each year. Other service organizations like Alberta Dancesport, the Calgary Fencing Club, and Alberta Health Services also utilize our facility to deliver their programs. The new washrooms and change room have positively changed the way visitors use our facility when they come for essential support services and programs.

From our Empower Abilities program to our community partners and regular visitors, these washrooms and change room have already seen extensive use since they opened. We are truly grateful to be able to offer fully accessible spaces for persons of all abilities to use. Whether it is a child in our wellness services, adult receiving employment support, or senior visiting one of our community partners, each and every person who comes to our facility has a safe and accessible washroom and change room to use.

“The washrooms and change room look incredible. I can’t believe what a difference this project has made. Now, anyone who comes into this facility, regardless of their ability, can use a washroom or change room that is safe, accessible, and has enough room for attendant or caregiver support. We’ve only had them open for a short period and they’ve already seen a lot of use!”
