Elboya School
2019: $20,000Playground Project
The $20,000 donation from Allardyce Bower Consulting Inc. has made a huge impact on fundraising initiatives for the Elboya School Playground Project. With this donation, we could apply for a matching grant from the Government of Alberta, hence doubling the value of the donation.
The goal of the Elboya School Playground Project is to build an innovative, inclusive playground at Elboya School. There are currently two old playgrounds at Elboya School and one of these will be decommissioned by the Calgary Board of Education in the spring of 2020. After the removal, this leaves one small inaccessible playground that will not meet the needs of the large and diverse student body. Elboya School has over 700 students in kindergarten to grade nine and is approaching capacity.
A key to making our playground accessible is by modifying the safety surfacing. Our innovative approach to the new design is to remove the current gravel surfacing while maintaining the existing playground equipment, adding new, interesting and challenging equipment pieces adjacent to the old playground and finally resurfacing the entire area with recycled tire rubber safety surfacing. The surfacing ensures that all children, families and community members can access a space where everyone belongs regardless of ability. We are currently working on the final designs with the vendor and installation is currently scheduled for approximately May – June 2020. A sincere thank you to the Allardyce Bower Foundation for helping us achieve our goals for this project!
