Camp Carmangay

2020: $15,750

Hip Barn Maintenance/Upgrade

Camp Carmangay is open year-round and offers cost-free access to Western Horsemanship programs and clubs to kids who just need a place to be a kid. With youth gang registration tearing apart families and destroying lives it was imperative to Camp Carmangay’s mandate to make an impact at the street level and create an alternative to crime for the demographic of youth born with little choice and even fewer opportunities than most.

Camp Carmangay played a pivotal role in the closure of the local (injection) site after determining that the components of healing had been removed and continues to offer respite to anyone in need of a reference or a ride to a detox centre.

Walking the alleyways with supplies of survival including food, clothing, medical referrals and cigarettes the Camp Carmangay outreach staff are a well-known entity of hope for the homeless population.

Indigenous women will tell of how Camp Carmangay has become known as a safe haven for those seeking sanctuary from the street and many indigenous youth will know the name of our General Manager.

No child is turned away and cost is never an issue.

All of this and so much more because of the beautiful spirit of organizations and people like those of you at the Allardyce Bower Foundation. Without the empathy and support from organizations like Allardyce-Bower, Camp Carmangay would have remained a seasonal resource, but with the ability to upgrade the infrastructure of the camp, we can now host year-round. On behalf of every child who has smiled because of your generosity, we sincerely acknowledge your gift with true gratitude and appreciation of your efforts.
