Between Friends Camp Bonaventure
2018: $32,400Food Forest/Water Harvest System
The wonderful support of the Allardyce Bower Foundation allowed us to grow our Horticultural Therapy Garden at Between Friends Camp Bonaventure for children and youth with disabilities. Our new food forest was planted with all sorts of edible perennial plants like cherry trees, apple trees, and berry shrubs. It was placed at the east end of the garden to create an enclosure and boundary which fosters a sense of security and safety for those gardening within it. The water harvesting system we added allowed our campers to be more engaged as the garden responded to their efforts and rewarded them with flowers, great growth, and harvest.
This season we have not only seen our garden grow but also the gardeners caring for it. They were all in their own way discovering the garden, working together cooperatively, developing skills and garnering positive shared experiences. We are all the better for the garden. Thank you!
